Video, Fehmi: polygamy in Australia? Why not?

November 21, 2008
ABC News video here.
Australia's highest Muslim authority has defended the practice of polygamy in the Islamic community in response to a report which found some religious leaders were pressuring women to drop complaints of domestic violence.
Quote of Sheikh Fehmi Naji El-Imam (Mufti of Australia) from video:
ABC: Sheik Fehmi insists it's uncommon and difficult, but ...

Fehmi: In some circumstances that you may be able to have another wife ...

ABC: Those circumstances, he says, include when a spouse is incapacitated and ...

Fehmi: ... unable to carry out her duties towards her husband.

ABC: ... Sheik Fehmi believes some compromise is feasible.

Fehmi: If it is possible that can we look at in Australia as it is the normal way? An acceptable way? Why not?
Sure, why not. I'm sure you won't ask for any more concessions. It's all moot anyway, demography is destiny. You can't stop it. A Muslim population is uncontrollable. Separation is the only answer.
